6 What Do Global Simulations Tell Us about the Convection Zone?
In this and the following section we will focus on global-scale simulations of solar convection and we
review what insights they have provided into solar interior dynamics and where they are in need of
improvement. We will begin by placing these models in a historical context and by saying a few words about
the computational approach.
